@article { , title = {Does spatial location affect business liquidations?}, abstract = {Current studies in aggregate business liquidations have paid little attention to the potential importance of firms geographical (spatial) location. There is some evidence of spatial concentration of economic activity in certain geographical across Europe which crates firm interdependence. However, the literature does not currently provide evidence for the potential existence of spatial effects in business liquidations that could be influenced from business interdependence in certain geographical areas. This study investigates the potential existence of spatial effects in liquidated businesses in a sample of European countries. As such, it investigates the extent to which spatial econometrics can provide further insights into the study of aggregated business liquidations. Statistically significant spatial effects were detected in the form of SE and SD spatial models. These results confirm the existence of spatial effects in business liquidations, implying that the spatial location should be considered for modelling and policy making purposes. As such, further research is needed in this area so as to further explore the impact of the spatial aspect.}, doi = {10.1504/IJCEE.2022.120503}, eissn = {1757-1189}, issn = {1757-1170}, issue = {1-2}, journal = {International journal of computational economics and econometrics}, note = {INFO COMPLETE (Now published, checked and updated 11/2/2022 LM; Info of acceptance from contact 7/1/2021 LM) PERMISSION GRANTED (version = AAM; embargo = 12 months; licence = BY-NC-ND; SHERPA = https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/id/publication/4328 ) DOCUMENT READY (AAM rec'd 15/2/2021 LM; Chased AAM 29/1/2021 LM; Contact will send AAM 7/1/2021 LM) ADDITIONAL INFO - Contact: Xin Zhang; Alexios Makropoulos}, pages = {139-157}, publicationstatus = {Published}, publisher = {Inderscience}, url = {https://rgu-repository.worktribe.com/output/1085143}, volume = {12}, keyword = {Business failure, Liquidations, Spatial effects, European countries}, year = {2022}, author = {Makropoulos, Alexios and Weir, Charlie and Zhang, Xin} }
