@article { , title = {After the applause: understanding public management and public service ethos in the fight against COVID-19.}, abstract = {Covid-19 has led to renewed public support for public services. Frontline workers symbolize a renewed ideal of public service ethos (PSE), though little attention has been paid to how the public managers delivering vital services interpret and mobilize PSE. We show how PSE is implemented by public managers reflecting their local contexts. We examine the theoretical roots of PSE and challenges by newer theories of public management before illustrating its contemporary manifestations through three case studies of local government responses to Covid-19 in England, showing how PSE has been adapted in current contexts and continues to inform public management practice.}, doi = {10.1080/14719037.2022.2026690}, eissn = {1471-9045}, issn = {1471-9037}, issue = {8}, journal = {Public Management Review}, note = {INFO COMPLETE (Now fully published, checked and updated 30/11/2023 LM; Still Latest Articles 23/3/2023 LM; Info via Scopus alert 2/2/2022 LM) PERMISSION GRANTED (version = VOR; embargo = none; licence = BY-NC-ND; SHERPA = https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/id/publication/5985 ) DOCUMENT READY (Final version of VOR uploaded 30/11/2023 LM; VOR downloaded 3/2/2022 LM) ADDITIONAL INFO: Contact: Gary Spolander}, pages = {1475-1497}, publicationstatus = {Published}, publisher = {Routledge}, url = {https://rgu-repository.worktribe.com/output/1585216}, volume = {25}, keyword = {Health & Wellbeing, COVID-19, Public management, Public service ethos}, year = {2023}, author = {Shand, Rory and Parker, Steven and Liddle, Joyce and Spolander, Gary and Warwick, Lisa and Ainsworth, Susan} }
