@article { , title = {Strategic sustainability procedures: focusing business strategic planning on the socio-ecological system in an island context.}, abstract = {This article illustrates how strategic sustainability procedures (SSPs) can be applied in the tourism accommodation sector in the Caribbean island of Grenada. SSPs are conceptualized from an adapted framework for strategic sustainable development (FSSD). Part 1 of the adapted FSSD defines the vision for the sustainability of the socio-ecological system or a vision for sustainability. Part 2 describes sustainable development processes and actions that businesses can implement to move towards the vision. These two systems exchange materials, energy and waste flows (MEWFs). The article shows how strategic actions to optimize MEWFs between the systems can lead to the vision for sustainability. Utilizing a mixed methods approach, 'visioning and vision linking', 'developing sector strategic actions' and 'monitoring and evaluation' were formulated into SSPs in an island context.}, doi = {10.1002/sd.1640}, eissn = {1099-1719}, issn = {0968-0802}, issue = {1}, journal = {Sustainable development}, note = {COMPLETED -- Still on EV 24/1/2017 LM -- Still on Early View 22/12/2016 LM -- NYP 25/11/2016 LM -- Still Early View 21/10/2016 LM -- Rec'd doc 7/10/2016 LM -- Doc requested 4/10/2016 LM -- Info from contact via Emma G 4/10/2016 LM ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Strachan, Peter A. -- Panel C}, pages = {35-49}, publicationstatus = {Published}, publisher = {Wiley}, url = {http://hdl.handle.net/10059/1874}, volume = {25}, keyword = {Energy, Sustainability & Society, Framework for strategic sustainable development (FSSD), Grenada, Socioecological system, Sustainable development policy, Strategic planning, Tourism}, year = {2017}, author = {Telesford, John N. and Strachan, Peter A.} }
