@article { , title = {Nano-selenium and its nanomedicine applications: a critical review.}, abstract = {Traditional supplements of selenium generally have a low degree of absorption and increased toxicity. Therefore, it is imperative to develop innovative systems as transporters of selenium compounds, which would raise the bioavailability of this element and allow its controlled release in the organism. Nanoscale selenium has attracted a great interest as a food additive especially in individuals with selenium deficiency, but also as a therapeutic agent without significant side effects in medicine. This review is focused on the incorporation of nanotechnological applications, in particular exploring the possibilities of a more effective way of administration, especially in selenium-deficient organisms. In addition, this review summarizes the survey of knowledge on selenium nanoparticles, their biological effects in the organism, advantages, absorption mechanisms, and nanotechnological applications for peroral administration.}, doi = {10.2147/IJN.S157541}, eissn = {1178-2013}, issn = {1176-9114}, journal = {International journal of nanomedicine}, note = {COMPLETED -- Now VOR available on website 10/4/2018 LM -- DO NOT UPLOAD UNTIL VOR AVAILABLE ON JOURNAL WEBSITE 5/4/2018 LM -- Pub refused permission for us to upload AAM but say very close to being ready (waiting for one author to reply), check this record every week to see if VOR available 5/4/2018 LM -- Checking with pub if can upload AAM under embargo until VOR available, via online form 29/3/2018 LM -- Contact sent Proof, check journal website to see if VOR available before uploading 27/3/22018 LM -- Info via contact 27/3/2018 LM ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Fernandez, Carlos -- Panel A}, pages = {2107-2128}, publicationstatus = {Published}, publisher = {Dove Medical Press}, url = {http://hdl.handle.net/10059/2867}, volume = {13}, keyword = {Selenium nanoparticles, Nanodrugs, Nanomedicine, Oxidative stress, Mineral nutrition}, year = {2018}, author = {Hosnedlova, Bozena and Kepinska, Marta and Skalickova, Sylvie and Fernandez, Carlos and Ruttkay-Nedecky, Branislav and Peng, Qiuming and Baron, Mojmir and Melcova, Magdalena and Opatrilova, Radka and Zidkova, Jarmila and Bjørklund, Geir and Sochor, Jiri and Kizek, Rene} }
