Biography (Theresia) Betty Sumarno is a Lecturer in Management, at the Aberdeen Business School, Robert Gordon University. She is actively teaching Oil and Gas Economics and Strategic Business Analysis in the Energy Sector for post-graduates students at the RGU.

Before joining the RGU, she had 10 years experiences working in the consulting services (Ernst and Young), industry (CNOOC and Husky Oil Ltd), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (Government of Indonesia) and regional & international research institutions as energy policy consultant (International Institute for Sustainable Development and ASEAN Centre for Energy).

She has been awarded a PhD in Energy Economics, Policy, and Management from the University of Dundee. Her current work and research focus on the global energy transition and centres on economic, finance, and management. This includes gender in the energy transition, carbon management, fossil fuel subsidy reforms, climate change and sustainability.
Research Interests My research interests are in the area of energy economics, policy and management. This includes energy transition (could be around oil and gas sector but with energy transition narrative), gender in the energy sector, renewable energy and sustainability, climate change (carbon management – carbon pricing such as carbon tax, ETS; fossil fuel subsidy policy reform), energy investment and also oil and gas petroleum fiscal policy.
Teaching and Learning Dr Betty Sumarno is a lecturer in Management within the Department of Business and Management. She teaches and coordinates modules in oil and gas economics.
