Abstract

This workshop explores relationships between artists' pedagogy and artistic research. In our discussions, we are investigating the spaces, places and contexts of both. Our starting point is the site of Fontys Academy (the conference venue) and its surrounding spaces. Thinking about the people who work and live there, that pass through, or pass by. Thinking about the space of the art school and the city as frames for pedagogies, practices and research. Thinking about curricula and regulations as sites that hold or perpetuate assumptions and prejudices - or which promote equality, facilitating artistic freedom and new ways of thinking and working. The session consists of three stages: 1) Beginning with a walk that explores the academy, the spaces that surround it and the city in which it is situated; 2) Continuing with breakout workshops organised by different subgroups of the SIG around their specific focuses; 3) Concluding by all participants and facilitators coming together to "collage" their learning and experiences.
