Abstract

This study intends to explore undergraduate nursing students’ experiences and perceptions of the academic support provided to them from university lecturers whilst on clinical placement. Clinical placements comprise 50% of undergraduate nursing programmes in the UK. The provision of effective support is linked to improved retention rates as it mitigates against challenges students experience on practice. However, there is a need to evaluate how students receive support from universities due to the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s updated Standards for Education and Training published in 2018.
