Role of private companies as mediators in enhancing smart city performance: insights from Malaysia.

Abstract

This study addresses two objectives: firstly, to discern the relationship between local government, private companies, and smart city performance; and secondly, to elucidate the role of private companies in the nexus between local government and smart city performance. Employing a stratified random sampling technique, 2,000 questionnaires were distributed via an online survey to all smart cities in Malaysia. About 399 responses were collected. Findings underscore a positive and significant relationship between local government and private companies, and between private companies and smart city performance. Additionally, private companies were found to mediate the relationship between local government and smart city performance.
