Evaluation of a higher education self-learning interface.

Abstract

This paper expands on the subject of an earlier paper, previously published in ASCAAD 2004 (A. Bennadji et al. 2005). The older paper presented CASD ("Computer-Aided Sustainable Design"), a self-learning educational interface. CASD assists various agents in their design of buildings, with particular emphasis on the aspect of saving energy. This new paper, presented at ASCAAD 2006, instead focuses on the importance of software evaluation and how to improve human-computer interaction through testing. The paper describes a summative evaluation of CASD and presents the outcomes of this evaluation. It also addresses the challenge that faces all software developers, namely the issue of how to make an interface that is accessible to all users. In this particular case, students in higher education are singled out as a particular user demographic.
