Biography Stuart Burnett, RN, BN (Mental Health), FHEA, PG Cert (Academic Practice)

Stuart is a qualified and registered mental health nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (UK). Having qualified in 2015 at Robert Gordon University (RGU), Stuart began working as a Community Mental Health Nurse (CMHN) within the specialist Substance Misuse Service at Royal Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen. Continuing his role as a CMHN, Stuart then moved to the general adult psychiatry outpatient services, working across different areas and multidisciplinary teams. Initially working within the Band 5 role, Stuart gained experience of specialist mental health continuous assessment and monitoring, offering low-intensity interventions to support individuals accessing the service. After successfully obtaining a Band 6 secondment post, Stuart became responsible for carrying out complex initial assessments and completion of tertiary referrals, as needed. This role also included the responsibility of caseload supervision for band 5 nursing staff and some management duties such as monitoring team and department training, clinical audits and he was involved in the Adult Mental Health directorate’s review of current nursing documentation.

Following successful interview, Stuart was then successful in obtaining a Band 6 permanent position within the Adult Mental Health community nursing directorate at Royal Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen.

In July 2021, Stuart was successful with his application for the position of Lecturer within the mental health nursing team at Robert Gordon University. Within this role, Stuart has been directly involved in the creation, review and delivery of theory and practice modules for undergraduate nursing programmes. This also includes the fields of Adult, Children and Young people. More recently, Stuart has been involved in the supervision of Honors students with their dissertation work and teaching within post-registration modules.

In 2023, Stuart obtained his postgraduate certificate in academic practice, with merit. He also applied for and was successful in obtaining the title of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

At present, he is exploring further study and is considering MSc or PhD pathways.
