Biography | Seáron is a Lecturer in Aberdeen Business School. She teaches marketing communications and events subjects to students studying tourism and hospitality, event management, and fashion management. Seáron is Head of Year for first year students in tourism and hospitality, and Module Coordinator for Integrated Marketing Communications, Events in the Creative Industries, and Visitor Experience Management. Industry background Seáron originally joined RGU in 2017 as Marketing Manager for six of RGU’s schools. Her remit was to develop and deliver marketing strategies with a focus on student recruitment. She later specialised the management of university marketing and communications projects, which included a year-long secondment to National Subsea Centre to establish and manage its marketing and communications. Before joining RGU, Seáron worked in the oil and gas industry for ten years, predominantly in business-to-business marketing communications and public affairs. She established marketing and communications departments for three oil and gas companies in Aberdeen, and specialised in subsidiary marketing management for engineering service companies. Seáron is experienced in digital marketing, internal communications, event management, and internal and external marcomms management during mergers, demergers and acquisitions (including an IPO). Seáron is a Lecturer in CCB. Before joining RGU she spent 15 years in industry, predominantly in business-to-business marketing communications and public affairs. Her undergraduate honours degree from DCU is in Media, and she completed an MSc Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at RGU. She’s currently working towards her PhD, titled ‘The Lure of Lovely: The effect of the aesthetic appraisal of digital fashion images on social media”. Her research interests include fashion psychology, visual digital culture, as well as teaching pedagogy for neuro-divergent learners. She also enjoys interior décor, true crime podcasts, Terry’s Chocolate Orange, stand-up comedy, and her latest love – solo tourism. Seáron Thornton is a lecturer in the School of Creative and Cultural Business at Robert Gordon University. She teaches integrated marketing communications, consumer behaviour, management practice, and events in the creative industries. Her students are from a range of creative management courses. Seáron is Head of Year for Stage 2 BA (Hons) International Tourism Management and International Hospitality Management courses, and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research students.
