Biography Sheelagh has been an academic within the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Practice at Robert Gordon University for the last 19 years. In her role she is responsible for growth and sustainability of the School’s professional development portfolio through the expansion of national and international partnerships and business. Within these partnerships, Sheelagh works proactively to plan for future workforce developments and co-design innovative, contemporary programmes for future healthcare requirements. Within the local and national partnerships, there is evidence of success in projects within the urban, remote and rural localities of Scotland.

Sheelagh’s previous role was the academic strategic lead for the School’s postgraduate portfolio of programmes. She has experience of curriculum design, development and approval of programmes as well as quality assurance around their implementation. Sheelagh studied and worked within the University of Aberdeen where she completed her MSc and PhD studies. She is a Registered General Nurse with experience in the community setting within rural Aberdeenshire.

Research interests are currently within elderly care with a recent study looking at building the resilience of staff who work in care homes in the North East of Scotland. Another research stream currently in preparation for publication is a scoping review of competencies for healthcare practitioners in remote and rural practice. Previously, Sheelagh’s research was mainly within the area of asthma and COPD.
