Biography Joanna is a qualified social worker with over three years practice experience in both children's and adult's services. Joanna practiced for two years as a social worker with Moray Council's Throughcare/Aftercare Team, working with young people transitioning out of the care system and into adulthood. Following this, Joanna practiced for 1.5 years in Aberdeenshire Council's Community Substance Misuse Team.

The increasing complexity and ethical challenges experienced in practice led Joanna with keen interest and curiosity to a career in research and academia. Joanna began working as a research assistant for Robert Gordon University's School of Law and Social Science in January 2022 and is currently undertaking a PhD in Applied Social Studies. Her area of research focuses on the lived experiences of social workers working with care experienced young people in Scotland.
