Mrs Mairead Orrell
Biography | Commenced work at RGU as Occupational Therapy Lecturer in June 2022 Mairead graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Business in Recreation and Leisure Management, followed by a Bachelor of Business in Marketing in 2007. She began her career as a personal trainer working with profession teams such as Irish rowing and provincial rugby clubs , developing fitness programs, team profiles, sports massage, and delivering complementary and holistic therapies. Recognising a local need, Mairead established a fitness class for older adults recovering from hip surgery, which inspired her to pursue Occupational Therapy. She earned an MSc in Occupational Therapy from Queen Margaret University Edinburgh in 2009. Mairéad's extensive experience spans various healthcare settings: Older Adults Mental Health, Social Work Occupational Therapy Services, Learning and Development Teams, Blue Badge mobility assessments, and set up an Occupational Therapy service within a private hospital . Her most recent work as an OT has been on Community Child Development, specialising in paediatric hand therapy, and serving as a Senior Paediatric Occupational Therapist in surgical and general medical wards. |

Teaching and Learning | Lecturer in Occupational Therapy teaching across all 4 years of integrated masters course at RGU. Responsible for module co-ordination, content development, curriculum design, teaching, research, and professional development. Additional roles include personal tutoring, year tutor ,undergraduate research supervision, and contribution to university strategies. |
