Mr Bruce Harper-Ovstebo

Biography	Bruce is an experienced academic with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Bruce currently leads on student recruitment and widening participation, as well as teaching, on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Robert Gordon University. Prior to joining Robert Gordon University as a principal lecturer Bruce worked at Edinburgh Napier University as a lecturer. Bruce also prior to working in higher education worked as a District Nurse Team Manager leading an integrated health and social care team. Bruce continues to work for NHS Lothian as a district nurse part-time. Recently in 2019 Bruce completed his Post Graduate Certificate in Learning Teaching and Assessment Practice, gaining fellowship with the Higher Education Academy. Bruce has over 15 years nursing experience spanning several fields including: community health, public health, general and care of the elderly medicine. Bruce’s pre-nursing career started working in finical services before commencing a career in nursing in 2004. Bruce graduated from Robert Gordon University with a Diploma in Adult Nursing. Since qualifying Bruce has gained extensive experience as an adult nurse, specialist practitioner district nurse, community practitioner nurse prescriber and advanced nurse practitioner. Bruce completed a post graduate MSc in Advanced District Nursing and gained accreditation with the Royal College of Nursing as an advanced nurse practitioner in 2016.
Research Interests	Bruce is currently studying a doctorate of philosophy at Edinburgh Napier University exploring the district nursing workforce and is due to complete this by 2024. The title of this research is: 'Beyond numbers and tasks: a longitudinal ethnographic study exploring the role and work of district nursing teams and the impact this has on patients, carers, families and communities'
Teaching and Learning	Curriculum development including integrating inclusivity into programmes, workforce development, leadership and management, quality improvement, change management, community health, caseload management, integration of health and social care, practice learning, student and staff mentorship, health policy, political agendas, non-medical prescribing, advanced practice and programme leadership.
