Biography Dr Els Freshwater is a registered paramedic, with an extensive clinical background as an Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Consultant Paramedic.

She completed a Clinical Doctorate in 2022, with a thesis evaluating a clinical decision tool in use to assess pre-hospital patients with major trauma. She is now a lecturer on the BSc Paramedic Practice programme at RGU and leads on practice-based learning strategy.

Els has previously been seconded to Health Education England as the National Education and Training Lead (Paramedics) and as a Training Programme Lead for Advancing Practice in Urgent and Emergency Care.

Dr Freshwater was awarded the Fellowship of the College of Paramedics and is active within the College, particularly around education, prescribing and critical care.

She is an examiner for the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) on the Diploma in Major Incident Management and the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care. She was previously a paramedic representative on the Faculty Advisory Board and is a member of the Clinical Standards Committee.
