Participation, collaboration and transdisciplinarity are frequently used sometimes interchangeably. Basarab Nicolescu theorises transdisciplinarity as a way of addressing multiple levels of reality and Tim Ingold highlights the importance of experience over experiment and observation over objectivity. His approach provides clues as to why artists often start collaborations (multi-, inter- or transdisciplinary) with walking.
