Abstract

This presentation addresses the importance and complexities of interdisciplinary research (IR). Combining knowledge, methods, and perspectives across disciplines is critical to solving today's complex societal issues. However, significant barriers hinder the success of such collaborations. These include institutional silos, communication difficulties due to jargon and differing methodologies, challenges in peer review and publication, and issues in engaging relevant stakeholders. Despite these barriers, they are not insurmountable. Solutions include advocating for structural changes, fostering a supportive research culture, and leveraging technology to enhance communication and collaboration.
