Dr Sarah Christie

Biography Having graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a PhD in criminal law, I have built my research and teaching interests around Scots and comparative criminal law, and medical law and ethics. I am also a Fellow of Advance HE, have held numerous external examiner posts at other universities, and have served 2 terms on the North of Scotland Research Ethics Committee based at NHS Grampian. I have also served on the Clinical Ethics Committee for NHS Grampian.
Research Interests Criminal law - in particular:
Scots, English and comparative criminal law.
Criminal responsibility, particularly at the boundaries of responsibility.
Medical law and ethics - in particular:
End of life planning
Autonomy and decision-making
Withdrawal of treatment
Assisted dying
Teaching and Learning I currently teach both criminal law and medical ethics modules. I also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations on a range of topics, and run sessions for PhD students on a wide variety of issues relevant to studying at doctoral level in the legal discipline. I also supervise at doctoral level.
