Biography | Prof Nadimul Faisal (PhD, FHEA, CEng MIMechE, MIMMM) is currently a Professor of Surface Engineering & Micromechanics at the School of Computing, Engineering and Technology (Mechanical) at Robert Gordon University (RGU), Aberdeen, UK. He joined RGU in 2013 as Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering. He previously worked as Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Alfaisal University, a Teaching Fellow at University of Strathclyde, and a Research Assistant at Heriot-Watt University. He has worked as Junior Research Fellow at Surface Engineering Division, International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad, India. He define himself as an experimental researcher, and specialises in research, teaching, and development of advanced materials and processes at the intersection of surface science & engineering and multi-scale mechanics. It includes the study and application of technologies to enhance material and structural/functional performance, reliability and sustainability for range of applications. His recent interest focuses on thermal spray coatings, metasurface, materials for steam & thermochemical cycle electrolysis, acoustic emission (AE) wave proagation in multi-layer structures, residual strain measurement using neutron diffraction, corrosion monitoring, nano/micromechanics, surface/subsurface degradation, and actively contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Experience includes leading/co-leading research projects funded by UKRI’s Engineering and Physical Sciences and Research Council (EPSRC, EP/W033178/1-METASIS), EPSRC NetworkPlus in Digitalised Surface Manufacturing (DSM), Henry Royce Institute, Scottish Funding Council (SFC), Oil & Gas Innovation Centre (OGIC), Centre of Excellence for Sensor and Imaging Systems (CENSIS), The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland, Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), Scottish Institute of Remanufacture (SIR), National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), Innovate UK, The Data Lab & number of small/large companies (>20). He has been part of RGU’s accelerator (cohort 1), and Glasgow based Smart Things Accelerator Centre (STAC) accelerator (cohort 3). He is a Member of IMechE and CEng, and IMMM, Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Member of RSE’s Young Academy of Scotland (MYAS), Member of Council of The Mining Institute of Scotland (MIS), Member of Council of The Scottish Association of Metals (SAM), and Member of EPSRC Peer Review College. |
