Project Title | Modelling and Analysis of Flow-Induced Vibrations of Steel Catenary Risers Conveying Multiphase Flow |
Project Description | The oil and gas industry for the past few decades have explored hydrocarbon reserves extensively in deep water oceans. Marine risers are long flexible pipelines providing a link to export hydrocarbons from the subsea production system to the offshore floating platform. Similar to most offshore engineering structures, marine risers are exposed to various hydrodynamic loads. The fatigue life of a marine riser can be significantly reduced due to external and internal hydrodynamic loads caused by vortex-induced vibrations and internal multiphase flow-induced vibrations respectively. The bulk of the literatures in the past two decades has largely focused on the structural dynamics of the riser due to external hydrodynamic loads with few accounting for internal flow-induced vibrations. Therefore, this project presents a comprehensive research of marine risers subjected to both external and internal hydrodynamic loads. |
