Biography | Dr Taimoor Asim (PhD, FHEA, MIMechE, CEng) is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering, Robert Gordon University (RGU), Aberdeen (UK). He joined RGU in 2019 as a Lecturer in mechanical Engineering. He has previously worked as Senior Research Fellow (2013-2019) in the School of Computing and Engineering at the University of Huddersfield (UK) and as a Lecturer (2008-2010) in the Technology Department at the University of Lahore (Pakistan). Qualifications: Dr Asim gained PhD qualification in 2013 from the University of Huddersfield in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling of Hydraulic Capsule Pipelines. He has obtained his MSc in Automotive Systems Design and Analysis in 2008 form the same institute, and BEng in Mechanical Engineering in 2007 from the National University of Sciences and Technology (Pakistan). Research: Dr Asim has worked extensively on Renewable Energy Systems and his area of expertise is the application of Aerodynamics to Wind Turbines and Wall-Bounded flows. His research interests include application of CFD to Thermofluidic systems, Turbomachines and Fluid-Structure Interactions. He has published more than 50 research articles in high-impact journals and reviews articles for a number of Q1 journals. He has published more than 50 articles in national/international conferences and delivered a number of keynote speeches at such events. Funding: Dr Asim has a strong track record of providing support to SMEs through collaborative projects funded by recognised funding bodies like Innovate UK, Scottish Funding Council and Energy Technology Partnership. He has led a number of innovations in the areas of wind turbines, pneumatic conveying, industrial fans, turbochargers, roots blowers and municipal solid waste management. He has also provided consultancy services to many small and large engineering companies. Memberships: Dr Asim is a member of IMechE (MIMechE) and is a Chartered Engineer (CEng). He is Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of EPSRC’s Peer Review College. |
