Biography His main contribution to research has been in the field of innovative housing design, especially relating to low cost solutions that uses appropriate technology and building materials. He has proved that sustainable and energy efficient design is possible on a restricted budget and ‘affordability’ has not been achieved at the expense of design or construction quality. His research-based practice has designed and built a number of low energy housing projects since 1990, including the first ever social housing project in Britain that has met the 'Passivhaus' energy standards.

Teaching and Learning Gokay Deveci RIBA FRIAS is a chartered architect and holds a professorial chair at the School. He has an international reputation for his expertise in affordable and sustainable low energy housing. He also runs ‘the next home’ studio unit in the final year of architecture course, which focuses on researching ‘Resilient City and Towns’, including looking at 21st century housing typologies to creating places and communities for better living.
