Biography I joined the University in January 2005 after a brief spell in industry as a development chemist. Before that I was employed at Edinburgh Napier University as a researcher in organo-medicinal chemistry. I was educated at Edinburgh Napier University where I gained a BSc (Hons) degree in Applied Chemistry and a PhD in Anti-Cancer Medicinal Chemistry.

I am a Chartered Chemist and a Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry.

During my time at RGU I have progressed from a postdoctoral research fellow (2005), Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Since (2006), Senior Lecturer (2010) and then a school senior leadership role from 2014 (initially Teaching Group Leader for Chemical Sciences which then changed to Academic Strategic Lead; before taking up my position as Associate Dean for Economic, Social and Cultural Development).
Research Interests Dr Kay's research interests lie in the areas of medicinal, organic and pharmaceutical chemistry.
Teaching and Learning I have taught across most of the pharmaceutical, chemical, and analytical science UG and PGT modules in the school. I offer UG and PGT projects in small molecule drug design and structural elucidation.

I am currently an external examiner at Edinburgh, Napier University and have been one at institutions including: University of Strathclyde, University of Ulster, University of Central Lancashire, University of Wolverhampton, and Liverpool John Moores University.
