Dr Moira Nikodem

Biography Moira has fifteen years of teaching experience across four higher education institutions. She joined RGU in September 2019 from the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School where she remains an Affiliate Lecturer.

Her first degree is an LLB, working for several years after in commercial roles. Latterly a Business Manager (Education) in local government, she coordinated non-curricular functions (including Staffing, Administration, Finance) across a network of secondary and primary schools. She later completed an accelerated MA (1st), MRes (dist) and PhD, all in Management Studies, at the University of Aberdeen, and has a PG Certificate in Narrative Research from the University of East London.
Research Interests Key areas of academic interest are qualitative research projects on diversity and inclusion and learning and development.

Her doctoral thesis examined women’s retirement, exploring the intersectional influence of gender, age and generation. This involved collating and analysing life-stories alongside review of government and organisational policy and practice. Other research projects have included career gender stereotyping in school education and the management of emotion in inter-collegial relationships.

Most recently Moira has undertaken two consultancy projects both evaluations of organisational learning interventions.
Teaching and Learning Module coordination: Moira currently coordinates modules BSM851, BS3003, BS3053 and BS4327. She also teaches on Scottish Funding Council professional courses and tailored commercial/corporate courses.

Supervision: Her supervision of UG and PG projects focuses on qualitative research projects in areas such as diversity and inclusion, learning and development, employee well-being and emotion. Current PhD supervision projects comprise: (i) gender and intersectionality in developing economies; (ii) employee engagement in the third sector and (iii) e-HRM adoption in developing economies.

Ethics Committee membership: She plays an active role as a member on the ABS Ethics Committee which is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and enhancement of ethical standards in student and staff research within the School.
