Bauhaus Dessau Foundation /Open Studio / Associate
2013 - 2019

Description The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is a non-profit foundation, funded by the State of Saxony-Anhalt, the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media and the City of Dessau-Roßlau. Between 2013 - 2019 I took part in a series of Conferences, events and projects in the lead up to the Bauhaus 100th Anniversary. I also contributed to 'Edition Bauhaus 57' Design Rehearsals: Conversations about Bauhaus Legacy. published by Spector Books.

The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is an artistic-scientific Foundation with the mission of preserving and passing on the ideas and themes of the Bauhaus. The Foundation’s work is historically reflexive and simultaneously investigates the present-day relevance and contemporary potentials that may be derived from the Bauhaus legacy for the twenty-first century.

Since its founding as a school the Bauhaus has been a place of radical new beginnings, with traditional knowledge being replaced by an integral and experimental approach which moves between art, technology and the natural sciences and incorporates sensory experiences.

Guest Curator / Toby Paterson: Thresholds / Edinburgh Visual Arts Festival
2013 - 2015

Description Curated by Judith Winter in partnership with Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, Edinburgh Visual Arts Festival & Edinburgh Sculpture Workshops. Resulting in a Public Exhibition and Publication funded by Creative Scotland.

The exhibition brings together a series of works produced as gifts for the seven Maggie’s Centres across Scotland. These works were presented alongside memory drawings and models giving the audience an insight into the inspiration, contexts and the process of creation and production involved in their development.

Both artist and curator were drawn to develop the project through their personal and professional interest in the founding ethos of Maggie Keswick Jencks and as a response to her writing in 'View from the Frontline'. The resultant series of constructed reliefs presented at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop focus on the process of making through direct experiences with people and places, echoing the sensibility of Maggie’s Centres themselves. Brought together in a single exhibition at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop for the duration of the festival, the reliefs were then carefully re-located following the conclusion of the exhibition. The gifted works were intended to sit quietly at the threshold of each centre, as a family of ‘things’ specific to each location, but connected through a shared experience.

Critical Dialogues, Scotland + Venice / Project Producer
2012 - 2012

Description Critical Dialogues was a project showcasing emergent architectural practices in Scotland. The four architecture practices selected by Jonathan Charly & Judith Winter were provided with a studio space on the via Garabaldi, from this base they set up a number of projects that reflected their diverse approaches to r+d. DO Architecture, GRAS, Pidgin Perfect and Stone Opera were selected – all responded to the Biennale’s theme ‘Common Ground’ by organising a week-long sequence of activities that engaged with marginalised places and social organisations. The four practices also mirrored the approach in Venice by developing similar projects for the Scottish context.
