Biography James is the Principal Lecturer - Paramedic Practice at Robert Gordon University (RGU), Aberdeen. In this role, James leads all paramedic provision at RGU and is also responsible for areas across other disciplines and streams of work within the School.

James has significant experience in paramedicine and the education of medical and non-medical prehospital practitioners. James has worked at several institutions, providing education, leadership, and teaching pre and post-registration practitioners across medical and non-medical programmes in the UK and internationally. James is a member of the Scottish Collaboration of Paramedic Educators (SCoPE) and the Scottish Government Overarching Steering Group on Paramedic Education.

James is the Geographical Education Lead (Scotland) for the College of Paramedics and provides consultant-level support for the College in Education, Leadership, Policy, and Public Affairs. James is also an Editorial Board member of the British Paramedic Journal and an Expert Witness providing medico-legal opinion in paramedic and prehospital practice in civil and criminal litigation. James is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators.

James holds several vocational and academic qualifications, including an LL.M qualifying law degree, with a dissertation titled: “Best interests – medical paternalism v patient autonomy: an evaluation of the development of judicial approaches over time.” James is embarking on a PhD in Management at the University of York.
