Project Description

This research will identify the barriers to, and facilitators of, farmer adoption of rural agro-forestry practices.

Implementation of agroforestry is relevant as it results in eligibility for various schemes in the UK . The proposed benefits of agro-forestry are focused on the reduction of risks from changes in the agricultural markets and stimulation and strengthening of the rural economy.

The project will cover
• silvo-arable systems - where crops grow between trees, including orchards
• silvo-pastoral systems - where farm animals graze between trees
• riparian forest buffers
• hedge creation and rewilding.

RGU will specifically research the anthropological, cultural and archival analysis of past agroforestry/ wild landscapes and the creation of visualisations of what the future may look like.
