Augmented reality rehabilitation for people with Parkinsons

People Involved

Project Description

Living with Parkinson’s is challenging. People with Parkinson's have walking difficulties, which are often evident at time of diagnosis. As Parkinson’s progresses walking issues may become more problematic, causing problems with balance and increased risk of falls. When movement difficulties increase and particularly if People with Parkinson's have times when they cannot move at all, the fear of falling can cause them to limit their social activity and become isolated. Anxiety and anticipation of falling can make the situation worse. Quality of life for both People with Parkinson's and their families suffer. Rehabilitation is commonly recommended when walking becomes problematic. People with Parkinson's are shown a number of potential ways of improving their movement. Most People with Parkinson's need multiple ‘tactics’ to use to help their movement problems, and the benefits they get from these tactics often varies from day to day.
