Abstract

Aberdeen is home to eight brutal modernist tower blocks. Within them are the lives of people who are often wrongly categorised and overlooked. In his first short film, photographer Steve Smith was commissioned by Look Again (RGU) to explore the lives and societal preconceptions of those who call these towers home. The film documents the voices and stories of these residents. It was first screened as part of an online event titled "Security, Rights and Shelter: Unlearning Aberdeen's Tower Blocks", which was hosted by Look Again as part of Architecture Fringe 2021 ( https://lookagainaberdeen.co.uk/architecturefringe-2021 ) and reflected on the "A"-listing of these eight tower blocks.
