Abstract

This paper explored the relationship between the supernatural and the library and information sciences. This relationship was considered in terms of five distinct facets: 1) the portrayal of libraries and librarians in relation to the supernatural, in literature and on screen; 2) the phenomenon of haunted library buildings; 3) the ways in which classification and cataloguing schemes deal with the supernatural; 4) the acquisition by libraries of materials relating to the supernatural; and 5) existing and proposed future research into the information seeking behaviour of those with an interest in the supernatural.
