Status Complete Part Time No Years 2017 - 2021 Project Title Improving the Crashworthiness of Composite Transportation Structures (ICONIC) Project Description To increase the usage of lightweight composite materials in automotive instead of metallic materials, the same level of crash performance for composites must be achieved, but at significantly lower weight and without increasing cost. This is an exceptionally challenging goal and require designing cost-effective and crashworthy composite structures, based on the latest research developments.
ICONIC project undertook the development of crashworthy composite structures by conducting experimental research and developing high fidelity models for modeling the crash behavior of these composite materials/structures.Awarding Institution Queen's University, Belfast
