The printed word revolutionised our world; it changed ideas, thinking and societies. 2022 marks the 400th anniversary of printing coming to Aberdeen with the arrival of Edward Raban and his printing press.
It will tell Raban’s life story, showing why this journeyman printer who learned his trade with printers in Leiden ended up coming to North-East Scotland, his connections with the Pilgrim Press, his role in the religious and political debates of Scotland at the time, and celebrate the technical printing processes he deployed when his press was established. Raban’s entry in Dictionary of National Biography is currently be revised by this project to include new research about his life.
