Abstract
Having good health is not just about the absence of physical disease or infirmity—it is also about having good social and mental wellbeing (World Health Organization, 1948). Sadly, mental ill health is a global problem affecting many people, including a significant number of patients with cardiovascular disease. In 2017, nearly 800 million people were living with a mental health disorder and, proportionately, it affects slightly more women than men (11.9% vs 9.3%) (Dattani et al, 2021). Almost one in three people will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lifetime (Nochaiwong et al, 2021). This can place a huge burden on the individual and their families, with one in five people living with a disability caused by mental ill health (Dattani et al, 2021).
