Organizational risk and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Soane, Emma; Flin, Rhona; Macrae, Carl; Reader, Tom W.
Abstract
Reports of viral pneumonia began circulating in December 2019. COVID-19 was subsequently identified and declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation in March 2020. The disease's potency and transmissibility have led to infections and deaths around the globe, with far-reaching effects on organizations and communities. Yet, the effects of the pandemic have been variable, as have national and organizational responses. Such variability has emphasized the social nature of how we position risk in policies and practices by evaluating pandemic risks against other priorities, putting in place interventions for ameliorating harms, and taking steps to learn and reduce the severity and likelihood of future pandemics.
