Best practices for the deployment of new technologies: investigating the psychological dimension

People Involved

Project Description

This project will look at maximising the opportunities for newly developed technology through a world-first research programme that will use psychological science to identify barriers to technology deployment within the oil and gas industry.

Whilst market and organisational factors can impact on adoption, it is the psychological barriers that are the strongest and least understood.

Individuals, whether workers, managers, investors or regulators, can have a very powerful influence on an organisation’s receptivity to new technology and we need to understanding how these psychological factors interact with the unique attributes of the oil and gas industry (e.g. high risk, competitive cultures, insecure employment patterns, volatile prices).

We need to maximise the opportunities for newly developed products and help to rapidly increase the industry’s ability to develop and deploy much needed new technology to maximise economic recovery from the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).
