Project Description

Over 1 billion people – including close to 500 million children – live in so-called slums and informal settlements, mostly in cities in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Residents in poor urban informal neighbourhoods face many challenges and everyday risks but informal settlements are also characterised by resilience, creativity, diversity and entrepreneurism.
This funding has been awarded to co-create, with community-based organisations and stakeholders, evidence of best practice and case studies around resilience and responses to interconnecting crises in informal settings. The project aligns with RGU’s strategic commitment by directly addressing global sustainability challenges and ODA priorities around economic development, peace and security, and resilience. It will produce a documentary film, co-created toolkits showcasing best community practice and case studies, community-led priorities for future research and more traditional outputs such as peer-reviewed journal articles and practitioner-oriented reports.
