Assessment of a Concept Vertical Axis Wind Turbine System

People Involved

Project Description

The objective of the project is to successfully prove performance enhancement of a conventional Darrieus Vertical Axis Wind Turbine when integrated with a novel Power Enhancer, through extensive empirical and theoretical comparisons. Detailed investigations have been carried out on the power generation capabilities of two turbines, one without and the other one with the power enhancer, under real-world wind conditions. The performance assessment of the two data sets over a long period of time (in days) will enable accurate assessment of the effectiveness of power enhancer. The envisaged product will demonstrate higher power output and operational efficiency, easier maintenance, lower start-up speeds, lower carbon footprint and reduced environmental impacts, compared to existing horizontal axis wind turbines, and thus, contributing towards Net Zero economy
