Meta skills and level learning outcomes: is there a miss-match?

Bremner, Pauline A.M.; Pirie, Elliot

Authors

Abstract

The authors conducted a qualitative research over an academic year using six modules in six creative degrees to evaluate if students and staff were able to articulate what meta skills they have learned on a module. In four out of the six modules students recognised meta skills more than staff, one module where staff recognised the skills more than students, and in the final module students and staff recognised meta skills more than each other in places. There is a clear disconnect so how can these meta skills be communicated better?
