The purpose of this study was to determine the time course of the performance and physiological changes that occur in response to a pre-match soccer warm-up. Data was collected on twelve academy soccer players, over five consecutive days. Measures of temperature, power, reactive strength, speed, agility and soccer skill were tested at ten-minute intervals over fifty minutes of inactivity following the pre-match soccer warm-up. The study found that performance variables declined at different rates throughout the periods of inactivity. Significant decrements in performance were observed in countermovement vertical jump and heartrate following ten minutes of inactivity.
